The citizens are also affected directly by the existing migration patterns of environmental refugees; in this way, it is a daily challenge of increasingly overcrowded cities.

A number of artists are bringing attention to climate change and environmental migration through installations, photography, or film.  Hermann Josef Hack is a German artist whose public installations have replicated the conditions of climate refugee camps.  Mohammad Rakibul Hassan is a Bangladeshi photographer whose subjects are often climate refugees.  In 2010, the Sundance Film Festival screened “Climate Refugees”, a film by Michael Nash.  It was also screened by the United Nations for world leaders during a meeting in Copenhagen.

The press has also focused on the subject of environmental migration.

“It is the job of journalists to raise awareness of this subject. We are already doing it but we must keep raising the issue of environmental migration with the public.”
