Canada

Type of actor: country

What is their position?
Canada supports the inclusion of CCS in the CDM. Incorporating CCS projects in the CDM would thus help inducing investment flows in developing countries. However, Canada expresses reservations on the topic. It first stresses the lack of regulatory framework: legal and regulatory frameworks should be developed by each host country as a prerequisite to hosting CCS project activities. CCS projects under the CDM should demonstrate careful site selection. Building on the years of experience with CCS, and with careful and appropriate site selection and site management, CCS projects can be safely and successfully implemented.
