Population

The Brazilian population in the sense of people occupying a geographical space. The subsequent issue is, thus, population displacement and access to land. As mentioned above, a part of the Brazilian population is displaced so as to create space for the cultivation of sugarcane. Let’s take the example of Indigenous people. Thousands of them have been taken out of their territories.

As a result, organizations, like Funai, a governmental organization, have fought to restore their lands to indigenous people, some with success. However, farmers tend to criticize the action of the association as this restoration of lands also rime with a stretch of indigenous territories which overlap farmer’s lands. It is thus interesting to see that on the question of population displacement, farmers and companies struggle side-by-side for the same interests.
