What the United States stands for
The United States Environmental Protection Agency places sugarcane ethanol in an elite category of superior biofuels because of its efficiency in terms of reduction of CO2. That’s why Brazil became a good partner helping to supply America’s future clean energy. However, the United States used practically none of this sweeter alternative before 2011 due to the protectionist policies against foreign imports of ethanol. According to the Brazilian Sugarcane Association, things have changed since the end of 2011 as U.S and Brazil have zeroed their tariffs on ethanol, creating a free and impressively large market for sugarcane biofuel, which could be a huge opportunity for these growers. The tariff and tax break was put in place at a time when the ethanol industry in the U.S needed the added stability and incentive.
